The 2017 Acura NSX is not a car for everyone. And no, we are not talking about the high price, which causes headache, but the masterful performance. Essentially, Honda’s new halo car is a perfect toy for big boys, yet it’s also highly complex supercar, with a max power of 573 ponies, so you must think twice before you step on the gas pedal.
2017 Acura NSX Performance
In contrast to the predecessor that was using a mid-mounted VTEC 3.0-liter V-6 and a five-speed manual gearbox and 3.2-liter mill with a six-speed stick shift, the all-new NSX is a hard-core hybrid. The 2017 NSX is using a mid-mounted twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V-6 with 500 horsepower and three electric motors. As we already said, altogether the hybrid drivetrain deliver 573 horsepower and 476 pound-feet of torque. The supercar sports an impressive 0-60 sprint at around 3.0 seconds, while the top speed stops at 191 mph.
The powertrain is pretty complex and sophisticated. The twin-turbo engine is mounted on the rear axle and matted to a nine-speed dual-clutch auto transmission via one electric motor. Other two electric motors power the front wheels. Each unit individually delivers 36 hp and 54 lb-ft of twist. The power comes from a lithium-ion battery with 72 cells.
According to EPA, the supercar is rated at 21 mpg city, 22 highway, 21 combined, which is quite good result for this kind of vehicle.
Driving Modes and Braking System
The 2017 NSX comes with four totally different driving modes. Believe it or no, the car has a totally silent “Quiet” mode, which is really cool option for a supercar. However, the tranquility and quietness disappears at 40 mph, because than the NSX steps into the regular “Sport” mode. Although the highly recommended for everyday ride, the “Sport” mode has some lacks. This is because the front end fights for grip on the high-speed open road drive. In any case, the real fun starts in the “Sport Plus” mode, but the perfect ride with perfect cornering and impressive handling comes from the “Track” mode.
The mighty drivetrain has even better braking system. An amazing Brembo brakes sport 14-inch ventilated rotors with four-piston monoblock calipers at the rear and 14.5-inch ventilated rotors with six-piston, two-piece calipers for the front wheels. Except it stops the car in a second, the braking system also encompasses regenerative power from the electric motors.
Styling and Features
The 2017 Acura NSX isn’t just the high-speed machine, but also very handsome car. The exterior styling is very impressive and highly aerodynamic. Smooth front end styling is very aerodynamic, which is quite expected. This way, the vehicle easily cuts the air. There are really large intakes all over the front end, while the hood features quite interesting scoop. Under the skin, the new NSX gets an aluminum-intensive chassis. There is also carbon-fiber roof panel, interior trim and rear lip spoiler from the same material. This definitely saves plenty of weights, and stops at curb 3,803 pounds.
Inside, you will find pretty futuristic design. An 8.0-inch digital display is for the virtual gauges, while there is a standard 7.0-inch and optional eight-inch interface with navigation too. The cab sports leather upholstery and keyless ignition, as well as tilt/telescope steering, ambient lighting and dual-zone climate, as well as controls Bluetooth audio streaming, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and HD radio.
The 2017 Acura NSX is quite impressive supercar, but like we said before, it’s also very expensive. If you want to buy Honda’s impressive halo model, you will have to set aside around $156,000.
