Honda’s new generation Legend is really spectacular car and it’s a bit shame because the Japanese car manufacturer has no plan to introduce this model to the US drivers. However, when you scratch the surface of the 2017 Honda Legend, you will release it’s almost the same car as the Acura RLX. Well, not completely the same, but very similar. In any case the impressive sedan will be introduced with the “Legend” name just in Asia and Australia. The US and European customers will have to satisfy with the RLX.
2017 Honda Legend: Powertrain and Fuel Economy
The most interesting thing of the 2017 Honda Legend is that uses just one powertrain. Yes, under the hood is single option, but not any kind, yet a hybrid setup – the same one as it has the RLX. The Super Handling All-Wheel Drive setup combines a 3.5-liter V6 gasoline engine with a 7-speed DCT transmission, as well as three electric motors. One motor powers front wheels, while the other two run the rear axle. These two electric motors in the back are totally independent and of the engine and achieve output of 36 horsepower. Altogether, the hybrid system delivers 382 PS (377 hp).
The car can use combines front-wheel drive, rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. The AWD system has three modes: EV Drive, Hybrid Drive or Engine Drive. The highly luxurious sedan features pretty impressive fuel economy that is estimated to be around 40 mpg combined. This is not just due the brilliant hybrid setup, but also because of Honda’s Variable Cylinder Management that arranges cylinder working and thus saves energy.
Specs, Luxury and New Technologies
The producer made the new generation flagship sedan very cozy. Compared to the fourth generation model, the 2017 Honda Legend is 9 mm longer, 43 mm wider and 12 mm, while the wheelbase reaches the impressive 2850 mm, which is more than enough for the ultra-spacious cabin. The interior isn’t just comfortable, but also very luxurious and really modern. There are soft-touch materials all around and pretty fine leather upholstery. Honda’s tech department included very intuitive infotainment and entertainment systems. The new driver assistant setup now involves first ever pedestrian collision mitigation steering system which helps prevent collisions with pedestrians. That’s not all from Honda’s safety department, because they also added an automatic steering assist, automatic emergency braking, lane keeping assist, false start prevention and traffic sign recognition.
The completely redesigned 2017 Honda Legend has been priced around $59,500 for the base model, which is really good price for this kind of vehicle. Of course, the fully-loaded sedan cost over $70,000.
