We managed to catch several testing mules of the new generation Odyssey in the past few months, yet newer the production-ready model. This time, however, the carmaker released the first teaser sketch, which previews the outstanding 2018 Honda Odyssey ahead of debut. According to the automaker, the fifth-generation minivan will be introduced next month at the 2017 Detroit Auto Show. More specifically, it will step out in front of the public on January 9 at 12:00 pm EST.
2018 Honda Odyssey: Teaser Sketch Shows Some Amazing Redesign Details
The teaser sketch shows really interesting styling cues, but we don’t think that the 2018 Honda Odyssey could look like this in the real world. As you see, the minivan lacks B and C-pillars, which isn’t going to happen with the production model. At least we think so. On the other hand, the D-pillar is blacked out at the bottom, but this may be the case with the production version as well. Aside of that, the redesigned 2018 Odyssey shows the amazing and ultra-sleek roof design and pretty specific rear end. There are Civic-based C-shaped taillights and a single chrome strip that connects them. The new minivan doesn’t show the front end styling at all, yet it’s pretty clear it will be ultra-dynamic and pretty extraordinary.
The carmaker hasn’t said anything specific regarding the interior, but the minivan should get more space inside. In addition, Honda promises some outstanding safety features and advanced infotainment system.
Under The Hood
The 2018 Honda Odyssey will use the same platform as the new generation Pilot SUV. It will also share the same engine. Yes, the minivan will once again have a 3.5-liter V6 engine, but in place of the current 248 horsepower and 250 pound-feet of torque, the vehicle will get 290 hp and 270 lb-ft of twist. Pretty impressive for a minivan, isn’t it? The manufacturer mentioned that the fifth-generation Odyssey is coming with new powertrains. This means there will be several options under the hood. Well, the first is definitely Pilot’s amazing mill, but what’s the second choice? We are pretty sure it that Honda hides the 2018 Odyssey Hybrid behind the Detroit’s curtains, yet we can’t figure out what’s under the hood. We think it is Accord’s ultra-efficient hybrid system, but who knows? Maybe the Japanese carmaker brings something completely new.
Stay tuned for updates.
